Investing in our schools
As part of the NSW Government's plan to rebuild public education, the 2025–26 Budget is delivering $3.9 billion for new and upgraded schools in Western Sydney. This targeted investment will ensure growing communities get access to a world-class public education.
Project overview
A project to upgrade Sir Joseph Banks High School is progressing. The upgrade is being managed by School Infrastructure and includes:
Construction of 2 new state-of-the-art buildings
16 new classrooms with 4 shared learning commons
New administration hub
New staff spaces, including study areas and facilities
New fit-for-purpose support learning hub
New school hall and canteen with multipurpose sport court
Realignment and extension of the school car park
Secure new entrance on Turvey Street with separate public and student entries
New covered outdoor learning area (COLA) and connecting walkways
Refurbishment of existing classrooms and facilities
Increase in support unit classrooms from 5 to 7 with purpose-built facilities
Removal of demountable classrooms
Progress summary
Construction site setup is planned for the upcoming school holidays, including hoarding installation and site surveying.
Construction is expected to begin in August 2025.
Stormwater and sewer pipe replacement work is underway at the rear of the school.
A new concrete path will follow once pipe installation is completed.
The library upgrade is complete, with new carpet installed earlier this term.
Next steps
Once the construction site is established, further investigative works will be carried out. More information about the start of construction will be shared closer to the commencement in early August.
