What is the Learning Hub?

Sir Joseph Banks High School’s Learning Hub is recognised as a centre of excellence and innovation in the district. It has been designed to provide engaging spaces that energise students and inspire creative, productive and efficient learning.

As a response to our rapidly changing world, the Learning Hub is an exciting and dynamic place that provides students with opportunities to work in both physical and virtual areas of learning. Students and staff make the most of learning spaces that are flexible and adaptable with furnishings and equipment that can be rearranged with speed and ease to support futures learning needs. 

The Learning Hub is much more than a collection of resources. It is recognised as a pivotal point in the school, a place where teachers, students and our community gather to learn and celebrate learning.

Staff

The Learning Hub teacher team includes learning, literacy, technology and STEAM (Science, Engineering, Arts, Maths) specialists who support students and teachers with exciting enquiry based projects. 

Open hours

The Hub is open from 8am - 3pm on school days for student use.

After hours use by community groups can be arranged through our principal.

Recess and lunch in the Hub

Our Hub is colourful, modern and exciting. Students are welcome to use the computers, play board games, experiment with robotics, do their homework, read or simply hang out. There are no ‘Silence’ signs here. Students are encouraged to have fun with their friends and their learning in this relaxed, welcoming space.

Resources

The Learning Hub is a stimulating learning environment that embeds technology as an integral part of learning. It is well resourced to support the learning needs of our students and staff. Resources include:

• 26 networked computers linked to the internet and the school intranet
• wi-fi internet connection for DoE laptops
• a dedicated Senior Learning Centre
• dedicated Koori Room
• breakout computer lab
• Makerspace with extensive physical resources including Lego, Strawbees, Kapla building blocks and craft materials
• robotics
• huge mobile TV
• 3 networked TVs
• data projector
• interactive whiteboard
• printing, scanning and photocopying facilities
• an extensive fiction collection that enhances the literacy programs at SJBHS
• HSC specific resources
