The Koori club at Sir Joseph Banks High School is an ongoing engagement program that supports our indigenous students.
Through connecting our Koori students with each other they develop knowledge, pride and understanding of their culture. We also connect students with the community, teaching them ways to succeed in society, develop positive networks and inspire those around them.
Our Koori club has the support of the Bankstown Elders Group and the Aboriginal Education Consultative Group.
The club has also formed a new partnership with the Corner Youth Project which sees students participating in an engaging program developed by Tamika Briggs that encourages students to explore Aboriginal culture, health, traditional sports and cultural games. It also facilitates connections with youth services in our area.
Aboriginal students have two special spaces within the school where they can relax and connect with friends - the Koori room in the Learning Hub and the indigenous garden.
Sir Joseph Banks High School is committed to working with Aboriginal parents and community members in developing personalised plans for our Aboriginal students.
