Background
Significant community consultation was undertaken to introduce an amended school day timetable at the end of 2017. While implementing this change, it was agreed to review the outcomes as part of our standard operational reviews each year.
The review of 2018 operations has been conducted.
The teachers at SJBHS value supporting the whole child. This year we trialled a 15 minute Pastoral Care as an integral part of the beginning of the school day.
The staff have agreed that this time is valuable, however, the teachers did not have enough time to complete the activities designed and mark the rolls. The Executive staff, teachers and the P&C have contributed to the following proposal that we are now putting to a community consultation phase, as we value our connection to community and your thoughts and opinions.
Proposal:
1. The school day will now start at 8:40 with a 20 minute Pastoral Care from Tuesday-Friday and a weekly Assembly on Monday mornings. A later assembly will occur in the winter months.
2. The school day will end earlier on Tuesday, at 2:20pm, after Sport to fall into alignment with neighbouring high schools and return the 5 minutes added daily to the Pastoral Care Program.
This proposal meets DoE requirements and school buses will be changed to suit the afternoon pick up on a Tuesday.
