Joeys own Martial Arts Champion is going for TWELTH title!

Samantha Garces of Year 11, was interviewed recently about her six years competing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Encouraged by her father who also competes, Samantha has a very ambitious and achievable goal, "I want to be the best in the world!"  She currently holds eleven titles, four in Australia, three in NSW, one South Pacific title and three Pan-Pacific titles.

In order to achieve her goal and to stay on top of her game, Samantha trains every day at the gym. She also trains at least sixteen hours a week with her coach and sometimes with her older sister, who also competes in the sport. Samantha is the first to admit that she is very competitive but doesn't get nervous and always enters a fight with confidence, attributes she has applied to her educational life here at SJBHS. She was asked to reveal her special move to the interviewer and told him that she uses the Armbar or Arm-lock to defeat her opponents.

Our twelve-title hopeful is set to fight in April for the World Title in Abu Dhabi. Supported by her coach and family, Samantha identifies her father as her biggest inspiration. He is so proud that he is there supporting her at every fight.

Samantha, all the best for the title. We are proud to have you as a part of our SJB family!
