Principals end of year message - happy summer break!

Summer break

We Made It! Some would say this has been 4 years rolled into one – every term has had its own set of challenges for us to conquer, but I am very proud to say that we’ve done that together and well.

We want to start with a thank you to every member of our school community. Thank you for your consideration, your patience, your support, your encouragement, your resilience, your determination. This year has been trying on many fronts but to reflect and acknowledge that we did this together and have come through the year stronger than we have ever been. Me2We@SJB has never been as accurate as what it has been this year.

Our students are the real stars in our COVID journey. They took our lead on the adjusted learning journey, had the belief in their education and trusted their teachers and this was evident in their uptake to the many changes that occurred through our learning journey this year. As a school we are extremely proud of every one of them.

Our staff have never seen a year that demanded the flexibility like this year has.  We took on the challenges and led the education system in how to thrive. Together we have brought our school learning environment through to a new age and it is exciting what the future holds. We have modelled the behaviours we hope to see in students and it has worked.

Genuine and authentic, connected staff and students. What happens here is bigger than any individual.

Finally we are incredibly proud of our Class of 2020, many of whom have already started careers and joined the workforce and for those who eagerly await their results this Friday, already know they have been offered their university entry.  We hope you are as proud of where you came from as we are of your achievements.

What's next?

2021 will see 140 incoming year 7 students join the Joeys family – steadily increasing our enrolment numbers to a school of 800 students – and so our family grows.  We have a 6+ new staff also joining us across many faculties so we will do our best to introduce them all at the start of the year.

The school, including the admin staff, has closed for the summer break on Wednesday 16th December.

The staff and administration team will reopen on Wednesday 27th January for School Development Day. The office will be open from 8:30am – 3:15pm on both Wednesday and Thursday.

Year 11 & 12 students will join us back here on Friday 29th January with a Year meeting at 8:40, assembling in the main quad.

Year 7 will start at 9am on the same day, Friday 29th January. They will be meet by Year Advisers at the concierge tent in the carpark.

Year 8, 9 and 10 will join us all at 8:40am on Monday 1st February.

Here are some quick tips to help you and your families stay COVID-safe during the school holidays:

· Encourage your children to use their packs whenever they leave the house

· Meet outdoors whenever possible and wear sunscreen

· Meet in small groups

· Encourage good hand hygiene practices and remind your children to cough and sneeze into their elbow

· Keep up-to-date with the latest health information by monitoring the NSW Government website

From all of us at SJBHS, be safe and enjoy the school holidays.
