Student voice at Joey Banks

Student voice at Joey Banks

Student voice is important at Sir Joseph Banks. Our safe and supportive school environment encourages and promotes speak up, participate in the school community and take leadership roles.

We highly value students’ active contribution to school decisions and influence on outcomes by voicing their views, concerns and ideas. Student voice brings the diversity of students’ backgrounds, experiences, cultures and perspectives to promote their learning and our school community.

Our students have played an important role in recent big decisions. Student focus groups were held to collect feedback throughout the rebranding process to update our school’s image. The school is currently working on a new student recognition/award system and students have been consulted along the way. We are also currently working with our suppliers on some new uniform options - short and long sleeve polos for sport and shorts for girls. Who better to ask than the people who wear these uniforms, our students?

Two groups that play an important role in student voice at SJB are the Student Promotions Team and the Student Representative Council (SRC).

The Student Promotions Team are currently producing a magazine for our new Year 7s next year. They identified a need for information aimed at students, not just their parents. They thought that a publication by students for students would help ease the transition to high school and encourage participation in the many programs and opportunities the school provides. Their new publication looks amazing!

SJB TV is an exciting new initiative the SRC are currently working on. They are planning on create news videos - news told by students, for students. They have lots of ideas to make student voice informative and fun.
