Mayor Khal Asfour visited and presented the school with a Flashforge Adventurer III 3D printer during our Monday assembly. Why? Our Enrichment Class won Canterbury-Bankstown’s Smart City Competition!
Students from 7E submitted the winning entry detailing strategies the local council could implement to create a more sustainable future. As an extension, the class was given the task to prototype some of their ideas around an existing cardboard city. This included visually coding roads for Ozobots to operate around the city and building renewable energy sources using Lego Simple and Powered Machine sets. Students spoke to Mr Asfour about their prototypes and explained how they could be beneficial to our community.
Our guests from Canterbury-Bankstown Council also sampled some delectable treats from Ms Pischedda’s Hospitality class!
Mr Asfour was impressed by the abundance of innovative practices and vision at SJB and congratulated the students on their hard work.
We thank the mayor for personally presenting the prize to 7E – they definitely loved unwrapping it!
