The latest publication by the NSW Department of Education’s Centre for Education Statistics and Evaluation features Sir Joseph Banks High School yet again!
Last year our senior teacher adviser, Amaney Roumieh, Mel Check and myself were fortunate to be interviewed by CESE and tell them about our Learning Centre and Transition team approach that has seen every student on an ATAR pathway receive university placement for 4 years in a row. It is our pleasure and privilege to be included in research and publications that are held in such high esteem across the Department of Education.
The centre’s research analysed statistics from over 10,000 students who participated in the Tell Them From Me survey and found that students who have positive relationships with teachers, a good attitude towards homework and strong attendance in Year 10 are more likely to finish Year 12 than students who struggle in those areas. Our school was used as an example of excellence in engaging our senior students.
Congratulations, Amaney Roumieh, on the outstanding work that you and your team do every day that has now been recognised as ‘best practice’ and featured in this CESE research paper and case study. Thanks also to Mel Check for overseeing this team and the amazing work done every day to ensure that every child leaves Sir Joseph Banks High School with ‘one foot into their future’.
The work our staff do is making a difference to the lives of the children and families in our community and creating pathways that would otherwise be seen by our students as not even possible.
