Open Day at Sir Joseph Banks High School is a chance for the community to see why we are leaders in academic growth and how we empower our students through opportunity. We will open our doors to the community on March 13 at 6pm.
Innovation will be on show with STEAM activities, including robotics, in our state of the art Learning Hub. Guests will be able to tinker and play with Lego, Makey Makeys and Spheros.
Principal, Murray Kitteringham, will talk about the programs and support structures behind 100% of the school’s Year 12 students on an ATAR pathway gaining access to university for 4 years in a row. These include the award winning ‘Power Up’ literacy program which has contributed to the school being placed in the top 1% of the state for growth in literacy from Year 9 to Year 12.
Our Student Services hub, aptly named ‘The Junction’, will be open for guests to see the Drop in Room and speak to staff featured on the SBS Insight program ‘Teaching Success’ about why Sir Joseph Banks High School rated highest in NSW for student advocacy (‘Tell Them From Me’ survey data).
Enrichment Class students and their teachers are also excited to showcase the innovative projects they have created as part of the Enrichment Class program and talk about how they are empowered as partners in learning through programming and focus groups.
In 2018, Sir Joseph Banks High School received frequent recognition at state level and won many awards including the coveted Australian College of Educators award for Educational Excellence. We invite you to visit, take part in some of the fun workshops and see how we are leading the way through innovation and provision of a broad range of opportunities for every child.
