One of the reasons why Sir Joseph Banks High School has the highest growth for literacy and numeracy in NSW for Years 9 –12 is that we continually reflect on the way we teach.
On Friday, principals and directors from the Grafton group of schools visited us for professional learning. Our head teacher maths, Ms Souad Khodary, talked about cultural change in maths. She stressed the importance of embracing change, of moving away from textbooks towards real life maths where problem solving and critical thinking skills are applied authentically.
Regional Director, Jan Green, suggested Sir Joseph Banks High School as the school of choice for the Grafton group. We were delighted to share our experience of teaching and learning strategies that make the greatest impact, with our guests.
