Last year some of our students participated in the Bankstown Plaza Activation on a joint project with Canterbury-Bankstown Council. Together the students interviewed approximately 20 members of the public on their ideas about youth rebellion, trust and their thoughts about the Bankstown Area.
Some of the quotes that were collected by the students were transferred on to 'Pause Pods', a series of cement blocks that have been beautified by local artists in order to encourage the community to sit, pause and reflect. BYDS were assigned 6 of these and artist My Le Thi lead in the designing and painting of the pods.
My Le said, "The watery background that I decided as lead artist to use as undercoat on the pods was to symbolise the ‘float of journeys’. I considered this especially relevant for the pause pods that were in close proximity to Bankstown railway station and bus stops. People coming to and leaving Bankstown from all walks of life from sun rise to sunset.’ During the progress of the project, community members were invited to participate and to express Strength and Imagine."
We would like to thank BYDS for offering our students the oppotunity for our students to be a part of this program. BYDS consistently encourage our students to be involved in various projects throughout our community and we really commend them on all their hard work. The students can check out these pods at any time as they are located just outside Bankstown Station.
