We’re really excited to announce that our brand new kitchens are almost finished and ready for Joey Banks’ young master chefs to start practising their arts!
The new kitchens are state of the art and feature all stainless benchtops and sinks, tiled walls, induction cooktops, combi ovens, disability access and commercial cookware. We can’t wait to start using them.
The kitchens are just one part of the huge refurbishment program that is underway. When Mr Kitteringham started here 4 years ago he was appalled at the state of important facilities like the toilets that had seen little more than a coat of paint since the 60s, kitchens that were falling apart, a library that was stuck in the 70s and classrooms that were not conducive to futures learning. The department moves slowly when it comes to upgrades and it has taken a huge amount of liaising and number crunching to get each of these projects approved and underway.
We now have facilities that are up there with the best - a Learning Hub that is an exciting futures space, brand new toilets, new kitchens, futures classrooms, interior painting and an upgraded oval.
And it doesn’t end there! A teacher team is applying for grants to finance an outdoor performance space, outdoor learning spaces, new gardens and even a grand stand!
Sir Joseph Banks High School is a centre of excellence for futures learning. It is wonderful to see that our buildings and facilities are beginning to match the exciting, innovative work that we are doing here. As Mr Kitteringham said on assembly today, our students and staff deserve nothing less than the best!
