On Thursday September 13, our school hosted 38 school and education leaders from across the Blue Mountains, South Western and Western Sydney and the Hunter Valley to share the best of the school’s programs for equipping students with everything needed for a successful future. Holroyd High Deputy Principal Rebecca Franklin tweeted that her mind was “still buzzing” after visiting and seeing the team at Joeys in action.
The day showcased a variety of programs, services and systems used by teachers and students at Joeys, including demonstration lessons in reading and writing from the Power Up literacy program. Visitors were able to see visible learning strategies, based on shared goals to build learning partnerships between teachers and students, in action.
Whole school processes for reviewing teaching programs in Stage 6 were also outlined as well as targeted assistance for students including the Senior Transition program, student engagement programs based around our Student Services Junction and numeracy teaching strategies.
The extremely positive feedback we have received is heartening. Below is an email from Jennifer Thompson, Director Educational Leadership, Blue Mountains Network:
"Many thanks to you and your amazing team for a great day today. I know, as I was speaking to the people from the Blue Mountains schools, that they felt inspired by what they saw today, and are eager to take up some of the ideas in their schools.
Speaking for myself, I was so proud to be in public education, when I saw the amazing passion from your staff. I especially loved hearing (and watching!!) directly from your students. You must be so proud of them all!
Thanks again. I know how much work this is for your school to put on such a showcase, but it is certainly appreciated."
