Jane Ang is the successful recipient of the JJ Pollock Undergraduate Science Scholarship for 2018. Jane was a student at our school from 2015 - 2016 (for Year 11 and 12) after moving to Australia from Singapore. After her HSC, Jane deferred from university to take a gap year in order to work, save money and gather herself mentally to properly adjust to living in Australia. Jane spent her gap year working full time at Platform 5 Café in Glenfield. She applied for the JJ Pollock Undergraduate Science Scholarship before she began her study at the university of Sydney this year. She is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Veterinary Biology and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
Jane recently spoke about the value of the scholarship:
"The scholarship is a huge relief for me because it will help cover the expensive costs of the course I am studying. I won't have to worry about the cost of textbooks, lab equipment and other fees. That will allow me to focus on my degree and get the best results I can."
The JJ Pollock Undergraduate Science Scholarship is unique to our school. The scholarship was established in 2010 to commemorate JJ Pollock's extraordinary contribution to science education during his 22 years as Science Master at Sir Joseph Banks High School, between 1963 and 1985. This scholarship is an academic merit based scholarship of $5000 split over two years.
The aim of the scholarship is to assist any meritorious student who has registered in a tertiary science course in the year following their HSC to study any field of science to help them achieve their potential.
Its objective is to promote the lifelong study of science related subjects for achieving students in higher education.
Congratulations Jane on your hard work and effort. We look forward to seeing where your career takes you.
