Stories of Strength is an oral history project which centres around inspiring people to stand united against forces of hate, violence and fear through story-telling and sharing of a selection of stories around strength and resilience. This year, BYDS (Bankstown Youth Development Service) has been working closely with the Year 8 Enrichment Class on the Stories of Strength Project to collect such stories from their local community. The students have been trained in the art of interviewing in a series of workshops and have gone on to interview their neighbours, siblings, parents and teachers about their stories. We trust that through this inter-generational exchange of cross-cultural stories, individuals within the community will feel a greater sense of connection and are better able to see their combined strengths. The students are currently working on editing their raw interviews into audio stories which will be accessible online through Mapping Frictions, with some broadcast on FBI Radio 94.5FM in the near future. Many thanks to Ms Conte for making this partnership possible. Year 8 should be very proud of themselves and the stories they have respectfully collected.
