It has been with much excitement this year that the TAS Faculty has welcomed back the Textiles and Design HSC Course after a 20 year hiatus at SJBHS.
With the support of Mr Kitteringham, we were able to purchase 12 new sewing machines for Year 11 to start the year with. After just a few weeks the Year 7-10 Technology students were always at the classroom door wanting to know what the seniors were making, so it was decided to re-introduce the Textiles units to the Year 7 and 8 Technology classes.
The seniors started with cushions and moved onto pyjamas then embroidery. Ideas for their Major Textiles Projects in 2018 include fabulous wedding dresses, fantasy theatre costumes and crazy cultural creations. How exciting!
Year 7 and 8 Technology students are enjoying making the pillows which they designed. Some classes are making patchwork, others are making Emoji designs. Next year we are extending the creativity into tie dyeing and screen printing their cushions, bags and footie team scarfs.
I am very happy to be teaching Textiles and Design again. I have considerable HSC experience in Major Textiles Projects and portfolios so I hope all my senior students will be very successful in their HSC next year.
Everyone is welcome to come have a look in G3 to see our young designers in action.
